inFlux is a swiss dance company. Established in 1999 the company has become an essential part of the freelancing dance scene in Switzerland and beyond. The name implies the mission: inFlux stands for initiating movement, remaining in a state of flux, to exercise influence and to be influenced. As a dance company, which mainly works freelancing, inFlux, extravagates many conventional models of production and thus reacts to fluctuation within the scene and the society. Movement is the credo: Movement provides a meeting point at which various forms of art and various artists and audiences meet alike. inFlux is committed to contemporary dance as an art form. inFlux is weatherproof!

The artistic director Lucía Baumgartner works with a steady ensemble of dancers and performers, additionally she employs new faces with different artistic points of view to complement the ensemble. Lucía’s interest in people combines continuity and the latest developments in the field. inFlux works project based. Working on individual projects is intrinsic in the freelancing world of arts. What bridges the separate projects is a process based way of creating which in turn leads Lucía to interdisciplinary work. Professional performers and laymen are coming together. Thus a rich repertoire is generated.

Lucía Baumgartner produces together with her company for the stage, for the movie industry and develops site-specific works. Moreover, Lucía Baumgartner is a sought- after choreographer and teacher. Assignments are as much part of the overall oevre as are the company’s own creations. In the words of the dance critic J.P.Pastori «un nouvel art poétique», is experienced by the audience as highly musical and scripted dance theatre. The work until now deals with a plethora of topics: Interdisciplinary Art, cultural alienation, education, abilities and disabilities, age, political and social topics of the day. Open mindedness, willingness to take risks, curiosity and the courage to push boundaries determine Lucía’s and the companies work.

Voices of inFlux-members

«I started dancing with inFlux because Lucia offered me a job ... And then I worked for and invested in the company for over ten years because it gradually became some kind of a family (the kind of family you look forward to the family gatherings, not the kind that costs a lot in psychotherapy): working in that context was not only challenging and nourishing, a hardworking pace combining a lot of brainstorming and laughing together with the sweating and body aching all masochistic dancers love; it was also a trust and respectful working atmosphere.» Sarah Duc

«A spirit of achieving anything through a purpose-driven bunch of very different people collaborating, co-creating and growing together.» Eva Richterich

«I have been working with inFlux for many years, because I really appreciate the spirit and how the company members deal with each other, and your ideas always led to unconventional results!» Holger Herbst

«Working with inFlux has always been like being in a family. A family that respects eachother's differences, approaches work professionally but also with heart, & has a lot of fun along the way...» Tekeal Riley
